I got the pleasure of seeing
I got the pleasure of seeing Joel Salatin live at Belmont University in Nashville back in October 2009. His knowledge of "value added" farming is amazing. I'm reading his "You Can Farm" book right now and it is excellent!!! 5 stars. I also highly recommend Joel Salatin's book, Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal, War Stories From the Local Food Front.
America is standing at the threshold of an agriculture and energy revolution that would financially revitalize our rural communities. The most exciting part is we could end our dependence on foreign oil and grow nutritious organic foods that center around ethanol produced from various locally grown crops (corn is actually the worse for ethanol production) with Cattails, Sweet Sorgham, Cassava Root (tapioca) and Fodder Beets being some of the highest ethanol producing feedstock.
More exciting is the co-products derived from distilling process using the left over solids are more valuable than the ethanol. Meanwhile local farmers can earn a professional wage processing their feedstock through a Community Supported Energy center. This would revitalize their rural communities and put millions of Americans back to work. How's that for a stimulus program!!!
