I've seen some very disturbing ironies about agricultural countries having to import other products like rice just because most farmers didn't have enough support. We need to take back our state Land Grant universities and Extension service. It will be important at the local/state level and collectively to Washington. They were formed for the very purposes that is most needed today.

I just find it really infuriating that support isn't given where its needed most. These small farm need all the support they can get. What is their Gov't thinking in wanting to get rid of these farms?

Always the ones who can't fight back. Agriculture is an important part of the economy & all support must be given to all the farms, not just the big ones.

Glad that you've raised awareness over this issue. This is something I have been thinking too for some time, well as you've mentioned too, if you want to ensure food safety just get to know from where the food comes from. I have known from personal experience that at times, foods produced by small-sized companies have better quality and they make sure that their food quality doesn't drop so I support these small farms, it's their livelihood and no one should separate them from their livelihood. Let them stay in the market and for me, it's far more easier to monitor them and explain them the procedure of your Safety Standard so they can adhere to it and work under that rule. Farmers should be a part of the system and they should be encouraged and supported so they also have a fair chance to compete with the big companies.
